Reading a full podcast transcript is useful, but sometimes you want a specific answer without scanning thousands of words. That is what AI episode chat does — you ask a question about the episode, and the AI answers based on what was actually said.
This guide covers how it works, what you can ask, and how to get started.
What Is AI Episode Chat?
AI episode chat lets you have a conversation about a podcast episode after it has been transcribed. The AI reads the full transcript and answers your questions based on the content of the episode.
It works like a research assistant that has already listened to the entire episode for you. You ask questions in plain language and get answers drawn from the transcript.
The feature is available on all paid Podtyper plans (Starter, Pro, and Premium).
How It Works
Step 1: Transcribe the episode
Paste a YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts URL into Podtyper. The episode is transcribed with speaker labels in a few minutes.
Step 2: Open the Chat tab
On the transcription page, you will see three tabs: Transcript, Summary & Insights, and Chat. Switch to the Chat tab.
Step 3: Ask a question
Type your question in the input field. The AI sends the full transcript as context and responds with an answer grounded in the episode content. Responses stream in real time.
Step 4: Follow up
Ask additional questions to dig deeper. The chat keeps your conversation history, so the AI understands context from earlier messages.
What Can You Ask?
Here are some examples of questions that work well:
- "What were the main topics discussed in this episode?"
- "What did the guest say about fundraising?"
- "Summarize the first 20 minutes of the conversation."
- "Did anyone mention specific books or resources?"
- "What was the guest's background before starting their company?"
- "Find the quote where they talked about hiring mistakes."
- "What advice did the host give at the end?"
The AI answers based on the transcript content. If something was not discussed in the episode, the AI will tell you rather than guessing.
Who Is This For?
Researchers and journalists — Quickly determine whether an episode contains relevant information for your story or paper without reading the entire transcript.
Podcast listeners — Get answers about specific parts of an episode you have already listened to, or decide whether an episode is worth your time.
Content creators — Extract quotes, talking points, and key ideas to repurpose for articles, newsletters, or social media posts.
Students — Pull out key arguments, data points, and references from educational podcast episodes for study notes or papers.
Message Limits
AI episode chat has per-session message limits based on your plan:
| Plan | Price | Messages per session |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $6.99/mo | 10 |
| Pro | $7.99/mo | 25 |
| Premium | $19.99/mo | 50 |
Message counts reset when you start a new chat session. You can clear and restart the conversation at any time.
Technical Details
The chat is powered by Google Gemini 2.5 Flash through OpenRouter. The model has a 1 million token context window, which means the full transcript of any episode (even multi-hour conversations) is sent as context. The AI does not truncate or skip parts of the transcript.
Responses are streamed in real time using server-sent events. The AI is instructed to answer only based on the transcript content and to clearly state when something was not discussed in the episode.
Getting Started
- Go to podtyper.com and sign up for a paid plan.
- Paste a podcast episode URL (YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts).
- Wait for the transcription to complete.
- Switch to the Chat tab and start asking questions.
That is all there is to it. The AI handles the rest.
